Jewish Book Council

This year, as Jewish Book Council celebrates the 100th anniversary of Jewish Book Month, we’re launching something new: Nu Reads, a bi-monthly subscription series—curated by Jewish Book Council—that brings remarkable Jewish literature straight to your home.

In 1925, Boston librarian Fanny Goldstein had the vision to create a public celebration of Jewish books. That spark grew into Jewish Book Week, then Jewish Book Month, and finally, in 1943, the organization overseeing Jewish Book Month became Jewish Book Council. Since its inception, Jewish Book Council has championed authors and nurtured readers—building programs, publishing journals, and connecting Jewish books with communities nationwide. And for the past century, Jewish Book Month has celebrated the stories that define us, challenge us, and bring us together. Today, Jewish Book Council reaches nearly 800,000 readers each year—spotlighting close to 300 new Jewish books, presenting the National Jewish Book Awards, publishing Paper Brigade, and producing over 1,400 events in partnership with 130+ institutions.
